Topic: Special Topic – Introduction to Desktop Publishing

This course introduces students to the computer as a tool for producing digital media and imagery. Students will explore using specialized software to create illustrations, edit photographs, and layout documents. They will learn the fundamentals of using two Adobe software programs: Photoshop and InDesign.


To complete the course requirements students will:

  • To develop basic skills using Photoshop and InDesign
  • To create pieces for your portfolio
  • To take files from Photoshop and integrate them into an InDesign publication

Instructional Methods

Book Project: Because you will learn best by “doing” this term we will utilize your skills through the creation of a book. You will be responsible for creating and implementing a project to support the topic of your choice. While design and creativity are important it is vital that your book be consistent and effectively integrates the Adobe tools and skills to deliver your message.

Required Elements

  • A 17-page (minimum) book created in InDesign
  • Photo manipulations created in Photoshop
  • End papers and personal logo created in Illustrator
